TALK SHOW MAVEN’S ESTRANGED SPOUSE SEEKS FINANCIAL SUPPORT
In April 2019, Wendy Williams, the host of the popular talk show “The Wendy Williams Show,” filed for divorce from her long-time husband, Kevin Hunter.
The couple has been married for 21 years and has an 18-year-old son. Reports indicate that Hunter has petitioned the court for spousal support and child support. In addition, he has asked the court to order Williams to pay for their son’s college expenses.
There are reports that Williams filed for divorce due to allegations that Hunter fathered a child with another woman.
Hunter was William’s manager and executive producer of her talk show. He has since been fired from both of those roles.
In a statement released by Hunter last month that was released by People magazine, he said, “I am not proud of my recent actions and take full accountability and apologize to my wife, my family and her amazing fans.”
In California, marriages longer than 10 years, the court does not always set a time for when spousal support should end. It can fall upon the person paying the spousal support to prove to the court that their spouse does not need alimony at some later date. For marriages lasting less than 10 years, spousal support will generally continue for half of the length of the marriage. In other words, if a couple is married for six years, spousal support ordered by the court will last three years.
If you are considering divorce and believe you are due spousal support or are being asked to pay spousal support, an attorney experienced in divorce matters can provide the information you need to make informed decisions.
