One of Hollywood’s most famous couples divorces
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie comprised what was likely the most renowned power couple in Hollywood. The two stars, known together in the tabloids as “Brangelina,” seemed to be living the most idyllic lives imaginable. But recently, Ms. Jolie filed for divorce, thus ending the pair’s two-year marriage and 12-year partnership. The split serves as a reminder that all marriages have their challenges, which sometimes lead to irreconcilable differences.
Sadly, details have recently come to light indicating that the L.A. County Department of Children and Family Services is investigating Mr. Pitt due to accusations of child abuse. Allegedly, Mr. Pitt had a physical and verbal altercation with the couple’s 15-year-old son. Ms. Jolie filed for divorce on the day after the alleged incident.
Reportedly, Mr. Pitt was “devastated” by the divorce filing and, according to a source, had requested that the matter be handled quietly for the sake of the famous couple’s children. The source contends that Mr. Pitt’s request was ignored.
Meanwhile, a source who is said to be close to Ms. Jolie stated that the divorce was not an impulsive act, but rather a move the actress believed needed to be made. In the filing, Ms. Jolie cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for the divorce. She requested to have sole physical custody of the pair’s six children. However, she also asked that Mr. Pitt be given shared legal custody and visitation rights.
Obviously, this story is still unfolding and will likely be a hot topic in the media for some time to come. But behind all of the hoopla, there is a family that is now struggling with many complicated human issues, including accusations of child abuse.
If your marriage is drawing to its conclusion and you have to address property division, child custody, child support, and other important matters, you could likely benefit from having an experienced family law attorney on your side. An attorney can represent your interests and help you create a fair parenting agreement and property settlement.
