Mel Gibson may have to pay $100,000 in child support

Whenever two people have a child together, it is their responsibility to care for him or her, whether they are together or not. Parents have to depend on each other to do the things they are supposed to do to ensure that the child is properly cared for and looked after. Feeding them, buying them clothes and making sure they get an education are things that are expected of both parents, but child support is one thing that is the responsibility of one parent that may affect the other.

Actor Mel Gibson’s ex has requested that he now pay $100,000 a month in child support for their six-year-old daughter. This increase is more than three times the $20,000 he is paying now. His daughter’s mother allegedly needs the money for security and to maintain her lifestyle. The two will be heading to trial to have the matter resolved.

It is not uncommon for parents to ask for large amounts of money when it comes to child support. Depending on the state’s guidelines and how much money the paying parent makes, the parent who is requesting this large amount may win their case and be awarded large monthly payments. There is just as much of a chance of the courts awarding less, so parents should not expect to receive a certain amount just because they requested it.
