MAKE SURE YOU UNDERSTAND CHILD SUPPORT ORDERS FOR YOUR CASE

When children are involved in a divorce, you can pretty much count on child support being a factor. Of course, there are some exceptions to this, such as when both parents have the same income and the child splits time evenly between the parents.

For the vast majority of people who have a child custody order, there will be a child support order as well. It is imperative that you understand what this order requires because many child support orders go far beyond just requiring monthly support payments. We know that you might have some concerns about this. We can answer your questions.

Child support payments are very important because they give the parent who cares for the child most of the time a bit of financial help with life’s necessities. Parents who are required to pay should do so on time so that the recipient can take care of vital matters.

The order might also include information about which parent needs to provide health insurance for the child. In most cases, this is the paying parent but it might be the recipient if that parent has good insurance on the child.

It can also include information about how uninsured medical bills will be handled. One parent might be required to pay these in full, but it is also possible that the court will provide a formula for splitting the costs.

Other financial considerations, such as education, child care and extracurricular activities might also be included in the order. We know that this might seem like a lot to think about, but we are here to help you out from start to finish.
