Larry Johnson’s failure to pay child support costs him his home
Parents who are ordered to pay child support should always take responsibility and contribute financially to the life of their child. Even though many people step up and adhere to the child support order, there are some who make the decision to not pay child support. When they decide to do this they are affecting their child negatively, as there are parents out there who may not be able to support their child without the assistance of the other parent. Mothers and fathers may continue to ignore the fact that their child needs financial support, but sooner or later, they may have to face the consequences of their decision.
Former NBA player Larry Johnson has finally had to pay the consequences for failing to pay child support for his child. He reportedly owed $900,000 in child support, but ignored the child support order because he could not pay. As a result, Johnson has given his $800,000 California home to the mother of his child and has to pay her $55,000.
It is a serious issue when a parent decides that they do not have to pay child support. Not only is it unfair to the other parent who is left to care for the child on their own, but it is unfair to the child. This is something that parents should think about when they decide that their responsibility to pay child support can be ignored. They may be able to avoid making payments for a while, but like Johnson, there is a good chance that the courts will find a way to get their child the money they are owed.
Parents who are experiencing difficulty getting child support payments from the other parent of the child may want to contact an attorney. They have been ordered by a judge to make payments, so it is not right for them to ignore their responsibility. Children deserve to be supported financially by both parents, and if one parent has to fight for that to happen, it is only right that they do so for the sake of their child.
