Jon and Kate Minus Child Support

Paying child support is not exactly something that parents love to do. However, many understand it is necessary for the wellbeing of their children. People all across California are struggling to make these payments, though. It can become difficult to stay up-to-date with child support, especially if a person is struggling with finding or keeping a job, but it is still important that these payments are made.

Parents may have enough difficulty making payments for one child. These parents may certainly count themselves lucky, then, that they are not Jon Gosselin. The former reality star is reportedly behind on support for his eight children with ex-wife Kate.

Jon Gosselin has been out of the spotlight for some time now. After enjoying some success with their reality show “Jon and Kate Plus 8,” the couple split up and Kate kept primary custody of the kids. While Jon tried to stay famous in his own way, Kate and the kids appeared on their own show, “Kate Plus 8,” for some time. However, that show also came to an end and both parents were trying to settle into a more traditional situation.

Unfortunately for Jon, however, his ability to pay child support payments has suffered. His earning potential has taken a plunge after his TV career ended and he states that he has to choose between paying rent and child support every month. If he cannot pay his rent, Jon could lose his house which would jeopardize his ability to have some custody of his children.

Like many other parents in California, Jon may now end up in jail for not being able to pay his share to Kate. Adding to his anxiety, Jon says Kate makes much more money than he does and he doesn’t believe he should have to continue to contribute as much support. If Jon truly is truly concerned about an income discrepancy, he may way to seek child support modification.

In any situation involving divorced parents working through child support and custody, it’s important to remember that child support payments are not for the parents. These payments are intended to directly benefit the children, and are generally in place of the physical support that a non-custodial parent may not be able to provide. However, the amounts that are ordered should be fairly and legally determined.
