The year 2013 resulted in numerous celebrity divorces, family law disputes and other issues. Last year was also the year for a survey about why Americans, including those in Orange County, California, are filing for divorce and the other factors connected with divorce legal issues.
In June 2013, research suggested that excessive use of Facebook may impact a person’s romantic relationship. The study explained that people who use the social networking site too much are more likely to experience Facebook-related conflict with their partners, which may lead to either break-up or divorce. Heavy drinking significantly affects marital relationship as well, according to a 2013 research conducted by the University of Buffalo.
Some interesting surveys concern children with a divorced parent. Earlier in September, research suggested that children who experience his or her parent’s divorce at a very young age may find it difficult to establish parent-child relationships later in life.
In addition, divorce impacts a person’s health, based on a paper also published in September. The research stated that divorce has a great physical and mental toll on men. Males who got divorced are more prone to depression and substance abuse.
On the women’s side of things, a July 2013 report stated that 15 percent of women in the country are either separated or divorced. This marks a sharp increase in the last century; less than one percent of women were divorced or separated in 1920. An expert noted that these findings were due to the cultural changes happening today.
Regardless of the reasons why people are deciding to divorce, what is more important is how California spouses deal with the legal and other issues accompanied with the end of a marriage. Divorce can be a critical time for a person’s finances, relationships with their children and personal emotions, but by carefully assessing certain factors and being positive about the situation, a divorcing spouse can move forward.
