Heidi Klum and Seal: Separation leads to divorce
Rumors and speculation have swirled since celebrity super couple Heidi Klum and Seal announced they were separating. At the time, they clarified that there was no divorce filed and they simply needed to explore their own individual lives. However, in the dissolution of a marriage a separation period often leads to a divorce, as was the case for Klum and her husband. Couples all across Orange County may sympathize with the former couple’s difficult decision.
News of the separation shocked many people, as they had previously been called a fairy tale couple in headlines. Married for seven years, the two were known for their annual vow renewal ceremonies and elaborate parties. The two announced that they are divorcing after three months of being separated. Each has reportedly filed the divorce documents, citing irreconcilable differences.
Like all couples, the two enjoyed a happy marriage for a time. Eventually, however, it was clear that their relationship was beyond repair. It does not matter if a couple is rich or famous, the dissolution of a marriage can be very difficult to come to terms with for everyone. Many couples face the same challenges as these two may likely face.
Both are seeking joint legal custody of the four children they share, but Klum is also requesting primary physical custody. Some sources claim the couple drew up a postnuptial agreement, which means that they decided after their wedding that their assets would be kept separate in the event of a divorce.
The decision to end a marriage is never an easy one. Many couples need some time to contemplate a potential split, which is why a legal separation may be appropriate. There may also be children involved, and a separation may be an easier transition for them as well. Working through all the necessary steps and procedures of a separation, divorce or other family law concern with an attorney may help a couple decide what is best for them.
