CHILD CUSTODY TIP: MAKE YOUR SUMMER TRAVEL PLANS NOW
Going on vacation during the summer is something that many families look forward to. When the parents are divorced, this can be a trying experience because of the child custody order. The best thing that parents can do when a child custody order is in the picture is to start planning now for the trips you want to take.
One important step for you to take is to look at the child custody order to verify that your child will be with you on the dates that you want to travel. You might have to adjust your travel dates if you see anything is amiss with the dates.
You should provide your child’s other parent with the travel information that you have available. Let the other parent know when you plan to travel and where you are going. This might not be required by the child custody order; however, it is a good idea since it will keep the lines of communication open between you and the other parent.
If there are going to be any changes made to the child custody agreement, verify those with your ex. Use email or text message so that you have a record to show what was agreed upon in case there are any discrepancies or disagreements about custody down the road.
There are some instances in which the child custody orders might night have all the answers You and your ex should try to work out terms for the issue together. If this isn’t possible, you can always turn to the court for answers. You would likely need to file a modification petition.
