After a long separation, David Arquette files for divorce
The decision to divorce a spouse is never easy, and it is not something that happens overnight. Often, a divorce happens after all other solutions have been explored. A California couple may try counseling, relocation or separation before ultimately deciding that a marriage has run its course. Though never easy, divorces can go more smoothly when two people are committed to a peaceful resolution.
In many marriages, spouses are each other’s support system and friend. Getting divorced may mean losing these relationships, which can be incredibly difficult. However, especially when children are involved, two people can continue to work together and support each other even when they are no longer a couple.
Celebrity divorces do not typically go this way. With reputations, careers and assets at stake, celebrity splits are often bitter and contentious. It can be discouraging for traditional couples to see these examples of divorces because they may feel as though their own divorce will be drawn-out and nasty. It’s important to realize, however, that there are more positive examples of a celebrity divorce.
Courteney Cox and David Arquette were married for over 10 years when they made the surprising announcement in October 2010 that they were separating. After almost 2 years of living separately, Arquette recently filed divorce documents. What is a little surprising about this pair is their continued dedication to each other.
They are the parents to a 7-year-old daughter and are frequently seen together on family outings. Both Cox and Arquette have shown up to each other’s television appearances and have exhibited a dedication to getting along.
Arquette filed for divorce and requested joint physical and legal custody of their daughter and did not request any child support or alimony. If any celebrity couple is capable of amicably divorcing and moving forward in a positive way, it could very well be Arquette and Cox.
