You will go through many changes after you get divorced. Your living arrangements, monthly budget and long-term financial goals will likely change, but you probably already know this.

Several issues will need to be considered, and one of the most important things to review is your health insurance. Do you know what will happen to your health insurance after divorce?

You have a few options after getting divorced when it comes to health insurance coverage. If you had your own insurance coverage through your employer or Obamacare, nothing will really change. However, if you were enrolled under your spouse's plan, you will need to find new coverage, and soon.

Several options may be available to receive health insurance, but it all depends on your individuals needs. You may want to consider COBRA coverage if you really like your current health insurance coverage, and you can afford the expensive premiums. However, this is only a temporary option so you will still need to explore other options.

Be sure to check out health insurance coverage offered through your employer. This plans are often cheaper since your employer helps pay for part of the cost. However, you usually only have a few options to choose from so review each plan carefully before making any decisions.

Obamacare is also available if you are not offered insurance through your employer or if you qualify to enroll. This can be an overwhelming process, especially if you have never enrolled in it before. A variety of plans are available to fit your individual needs. Think about the type of coverage you need and what you are able to spend on premiums and out-of-pocket costs to help make a decision.

Working with a divorce attorney can help you understand all of your options and make sure you create a proper plan for life after divorce.
